How to vote in District A this fall: four dates to put on your calendar

Register by October 5 in person or October 13 online, vote early October 20 to 27, request absentee by October 30, and vote on Tuesday, November 3.

Election Day for Shreveport City Council District A is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Before then, there are four dates every District A voter should know. Here they are in order, with the official places to check your own information.

1. Register: October 5 in person, October 13 online

The deadline to register in person, by mail, or at an OMV office is Monday, October 5, 2026. The deadline to register online through GeauxVote is Tuesday, October 13, 2026. You can check your registration status any time on the Louisiana Secretary of State Voter Portal.

2. Vote early: October 20 to 27

Early voting runs October 20 through October 27, 2026, excluding Sunday, October 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Caddo Parish lists two early voting sites:

  • The Registrar of Voters office, 525 Marshall St, Suite 103, Shreveport, LA 71101.
  • Shreve Memorial Library Hamilton/South Branch, 2111 W Bert Kouns Industrial Loop, Shreveport, LA 71118 (may be open limited dates).

Confirm sites and hours on the voter portal before you go. Questions about your registration go to the Caddo Parish Registrar of Voters at 318-226-6891.

3. Request an absentee ballot by October 30

Request an absentee ballot by Friday, October 30, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. Your voted absentee ballot must reach the Registrar of Voters by Monday, November 2, 2026, at 4:30 p.m.

4. Election Day: Tuesday, November 3

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Vote at your assigned polling place. The voter portal shows your precinct and polling place by address.

If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote on November 3, Louisiana holds a runoff on Saturday, December 12, 2026. Mark both dates.

Check your district and your ballot

District A covers north Shreveport. Check your address on the City of Shreveport council district map, then use the voter portal to verify your districts, precinct and sample ballot. The campaign-supplied ballot number is 151*. The Secretary of State assigns ballot numbers, so confirm yours on your official sample ballot.

One more date: National Night Out

National Night Out is Tuesday, October 6. The City of Shreveport invites neighborhoods across the city to hold their own gatherings that night. Details and registration are on the City of Shreveport National Night Out page.
